Yogi Bear (2010 Film Review)

Ok so I bought this DVD quite some time ago, and decided randomly today to watch this as it's one of the only unwatched DVD movies I have left in my library. I myself have never seen any Yogi Bear episodes, and never grew up watching it before, so I can't compare this with the original so this is my review on the film, and the character(s) overall.

I'll skip the major plot-lines, but basically a park is going to be demolished, and they need to raise enough money to save it. Overall I expected the movie to be more based on the character Yogi Bear, but I felt like the animated characters were more of a side plot extra as a majority of the film doesn't quite revolve around them. I think that people who grew up watching the TV show would be a bit disappointed watching this film.

The film overall isn't really bad. For a kids film, I'm sure that it will entertain them. Yogi Bear sort of reminds me of Scooby Doo, I think I know where one of the characters were inspired from(same creators too!) The film flows quite smooth and it's not exactly boring. I'd have to give it a 4/10. Not bad at all.

Super Pokemon Rumble (3DS Review)

Hi everyone! Today I will quickly talk about Super Pokemon Rumble on 3DS. So in this game, Pokemon are windup toys. In this game, you go through various stages, and basically attack different Pokemon and make new "friends". You can then use the new friend you make to attack. For each section of the game, you make stronger and stronger friends, so the more friends you make, the more powerful you get. There's a few sections int he game where you need to do requests where you need to collect items by finishing a tournament thing.

Overall, the story line is very spaced out, and the game gets repetitive, but I really like the game. It's quite different to your usual Pokemon game, but I'd have to say that it's more closer related to the rescue team games. I'd have to give this game a 7.5 out of 10. There's plenty to do, as long as you don't mind  repetition.

Pokkén Tournament & Pokemon @ McDonalds + Dragon Ball Z Movie (Pokemon News)

I'm sure people have heard of it already but a Pokemon fighting game called Pokkén Tournament was announced days ago >< I'm so excited because it's being created by Namco Bandai who created Tekken (Huge fan!!!), hence the 拳(Ken) from Tekken, Pok-Ken!!! haha!!! I'm so excited, and this is apparently more targeted at an older audience which is different, as Pokemon has been mostly targeted at a younger audience before now.

On another note, Pokemon toys are being released at McDonalds in NZ(possibly Australia too, not quite sure) but there are 8 different toys to collect, and each toy has a different card(12 to collect). The toys are based off the XY series. The toys all do the same thing, shoot and spin. Find out more by heading over to the McDonalds Happy Meal website! For a little not you don't need to buy a Happy Meal just to get the toy, you can just buy the toy so don't worry about getting so much food if you're just buying them for yourself!!!

Anyway that is all! I won't be going to the DBZ movie at Hoyts, so too bad, but if you're there tomorrow then don't miss it! Free poster provided too (Limited Stock Only!!)

Terminator Salvation (The Machinima Series Review)

Today I will be reviewing my general thoughts on what I thought from just watching the first episode of this series. When I pressed play I immediately thought, oh no! You know why? Because I thought it was the actual live action film instead! I thought I bought the movie, but ended up buying the series instead so for one thing I think the graphics were really well made, at least the DVD cover anyway. The actual episode graphics are more game console style. Have you watched little clips within certain story games?? Well it's basically like that. Actually the mouth flaps arn't quite right, I think they were on a budget or something so their mouths open, but the mouth flap isn't quite right. that's one thing I didn't really like about it.

So if you've watched any of the terminator films or the Sarah Connor Chronicles, then don't expect the storyline to be similar to that, although this series plays on just before the Salvation film so I think that this series gives a good back story on what will happen in the film(possibly).

In the first episode you see a character Blair Williams basically running around the place, shooting robots. The episode ends with her saving a guy from a a robot which is about to kill the guy, though I'm a bit unsure if he was killed or not in the end. Either way, at least for the first episode, not much happens, though if you're just looking for some action animation then this could be the series for you.

I can't really rate this series as I haven't fully seen it yet, but I have to say that I'm still not hooked into it yet. Well that's all for today, bye for now!

Cloverfield(Film Review)

So today I decided to watch Cloverfield. This movie is a science fiction, found footage, monster film directed by Matt Reeves. There's only a few things that I can say about this film. For one thing, it makes me sick, this is because it uses a handheld technique through the whole film which can make people like me motion sick. I think for one thing they could have not incorporated the found footage genre, I do not believe that it is a very good genre to be producing films in, unless the camera is more stabilized. There were reports of people throwing up while watching this film, so if a film is driving people out of their seats, then I don't think it's very good. But I have to say this this is the very first film that has made me feel sick, very interesting actually.

In terms of storyline, basically a group are having a (wedding??) party, and all of a sudden there's a big shock which is suspected to be an earthquake, then later it is found that some monster is tearing out the place. So everyone is running for their lives as a massive panic breaks loose. It's hard for me not to compare this to the film "The Darkest Hour" which is sort of similar in which "aliens" are attacking the humans, and a group of people are trying to survive. What's different is that the time scale is different, as in Cloverfield, the whole event takes place within hours, and also it uses the hand held style camera shots.

If I wasn't listening to this movie half of the time to stop myself throwing up, I think I would have enjoyed the film more. I can say that not much interesting happens, except the group of people are trying to rescue this girl who is in a building who is related to one of the guys in the group, so in a way, they are more fearless, and are able to fight off some spider looking mosters. The girls are also a lot tougher and some appear to have the final girl trope.

I'm actually a bit uncertain of the ending, and whether some of the characters actually survived or not, I don't think it was very clear. All in all, I have to give this film a 3. The cover and back pictures are quite misleading as they don't suggest a found footage genre at all, but a more disaster/ horror type film like 2012?? Not quite sure, but I think also the characters arn't very developed in this film, which made a lot of things a let down. That is all for now, bye!

The Expendables 3 (Film Review)

So yesterday I went and saw The Expendables 3 at the movies without properly watching the first 2 films(even though I have them on Blu-Ray :P). Anyway, I won't reference much of the plot as I don't want to spoil a new movie release, and also, I can't reference any of the other films, so this is a review on a person who has only seen this film with no influences of the others.

The first thing I thought while watching this movie was "Where do I know him from", this happened quite a few times throughout the film, me trying to figure out who each person was, as I know many and have seen quite a few films in my lifetime. There's really only a few characters who have major roles in this film, everyone else basically have cameos, even though they're one of the main characters in the film(strange huh??). I think that's probably one of the weak points to this film. I think as there's so many actors trying to fit into the film, it came to a point where not enough of the actors actually got speaking roles, or you just see them for a few scenes.

But if you're looking for action and suspense then you've got it! This film never misses out on any action. The whole film is full of it actually! Explosions everywhere, buildings falling down etc, you've got it!

I have to say Antonio Banderas who plays Galgo did quite the job on playing a chatterbox. So much that everyone in the room kept laughing whenever he opened his mouth!

The effects for this film were really amazing I think, now days you can't tell the fake from real anymore which is great!!

I don't really have much to say, except that many people die haha, so all in all I'll give it an 8 out of 10. It's a pretty good action film. I will now go and watch the first two films and maybe compare them with this one to see if my views change.

Devil (Film Review)

Hi everyone, today I will be reviewing the 2010 Supernatural Horror film Devil, Directed by John Erick Dowdle.

The film starts off sort of like a CSI or NCIS film. There's a body that's been found on top of a truck in which it is believed that the guy jumped from a tall building. In the same building, an elevator is stuck with people inside. The elevator blacks out sometimes and people get injured each time, with one lady getting bite marks on her back, and another guy is later killed. One of the 4 remaining characters are suspected of being the killers, while one of the security guards from the building suspects the Devil. It is later discovered that each person in the elevator has their own secret and people in the building are being picked off one by one.

In terms of plot, there's not actually much going on in the film. People get killed off one by one, and it's basically a mystery on how they die. If you like mystery suspense horror, then this could be the film for you! I don't really have much to say about this film, because I can't think of anything much to say as not much happens. But for a horror film, I think they could have incorporated more horror tropes into the film to make it more interesting.

I have to give it a 4/10. It's not a bad film overall, but more could have gone on.

Wonka Cookie Creamery (Food Review)

Ok this is new, a food review. Yesterday I decided to try this out for the first time. I have never seen it before until yesterday, so I decided to try it!!! So what my first thoughts was that it'd be like a cookies and cream sort of taste, like the other Nestle range, and I quite like eating those. When you  open it up there's 12 blocks i think(ate it already lol) which you can split up and  eat. Basically the whole inside is the cookie creamery stuff with just the outside being milk chocolate. TBH I think the whole thing is a bit too sweet. If they had a bit more milk chocolate then it might be a different story but the whole thing wasn't bad at all for $1. Try it out for yourself if you haven't already! That's all today sorry >< bye!

New Changed URL

Hi everyone! Just letting you know that I've changed this url to entertainmentmasterbrendan. i'll think about it for a little while but this fits better than my old url I think. It's still a bit long though so I can change it later, but I think "masterbrendan" has sort of become a trademark for my name. Anyway that is all. I'll see how long my daily blogs will last on this page!! Until then, bye!

DragonBall Z Raging Blast 2 (PS3 Game Review)

So today I decided to play the game DragonBall Z Raging Blast 2 on PS3 for around an hour to see what the game was like. Like my previous reviews, I just talk about my thoughts on the game, that's all.

So what do you do in this game?? Well.... it's a 3D fighting game which means that there's a 3D look to all the characters. There's a few different modes you can play in. One I played was Galaxy Mode, which is basically story mode, but I have to say that for story mode, there's not much of a story going on, just fighting really. I tried out some of the other modes, and you guessed it, fighting!! But I'm not just saying this just because, but I feel like the game is a bit repetitive.

It's different to your usual Tekken, or Street Fighter definitely, though for some reason the health bar brings me back to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Kingdom Hearts. Talking about the health bar, it confused me a bit, until I really took notice of it. When your health bar reaches empty, it automatically fills up again. I had to stare at it for a while before it made sense, so you and your opponent get 3 or four dots(maybe more when you go further in the game), and for each time you or your opponent reaches zero health, one dot disappears and the health fills again, so in actual fact, you stick around until all the dots disappear and the health is empty!! I think this is the first time I've seen something like this before so it's sort of a shock lol.

While you're fighting, I find the moves a bit repetitive. I just press square multiple times, and or press triangle, or mix triangle and square to attack. I don't think there's much of a move set so the game feels a bit repetitive which is a down side of this game. A sort of cool thing is that once you clear a stage, you unlock some sort of award or item or something. Sometimes you unlock pictures(which I think are just stills from the TV show lol).

I have played some Dragon Ball Z games in the past, and I don't think there's much difference between those games and this one. You still just fight opponents, there's not much to it(at least for what I've played so far). A cool thing which they always put in is the interactive loading screens. In this game you just press buttons which show up on screen. Not as fun as the flying Roshi in one of the previous games!!

I give this game a 6/10. I mean it's not bad, and it's entertained me for at least an hour so it's ok. I think they could have worked on a better story though, that would have made the game very exciting. I think that if you have any of the other Dragon Ball Z games and are thinking of buying this one, then maybe only buy it if it's on sale, or if you're a collector or something, because I don't see the point on buying this game really, unless you want to try out a DBZ game!!!

So that's all really. This game does have multi-player mode I believe so I think it could be fun to play with friends or family. That's all for this review!

Dragon Ball Z Season 4 (MId Way Review)

Hello everybody, sorry for all the Dragon Ball Z blogs but I've been watching it pretty much everyday and made it past season 3. I have to say that there wasn't much to season 3, mostly just Goku, Piccolo, Gohan, Vegeta  and Krillin battling Frieza for probably 20+ episodes, and that carried on from the previous season! Following on from the previous season, everyone was wished back to earth and now Vegeta and Yamcha lives with Bulma's family (how this happened I sort of forgot sorry lol), but a year or so passes since the previous season, and everyone is settling down. Goku still doesn't arrive back yet, until around mid way through (spoiler alert sorry). Frieza appears again but is fought off by a mysterious Saiyan named Trunks who later is found to be from the future and gives details on what will happen if Goku and the gang don't change it, so now everyone is training because within 3 years so Android people will come and basically destroy the place(like we haven't heard of that before right??)

Anyway, a little side plot I think is interesting... Gohan is forced to study by Chi-Chi and since he's so smart she decided to hire a tutor for him, who is really mean and nasty. This is probably the most interesting thing to happen in the series haha, so make sure you watch it if you haven't already.

I think what differs from this season to the others is that it's not just one big fight season like some of the previous seasons.  We get to see characters go on with their lives while training at the same time, which is interesting to see. Although the season half way doesn't have as much fighting, I think this is good as the fight sequences only last for a couple of episodes(I like it). Is this too much rambling for you?? Sorry about that!

Currently I'm watching Goku and Piccolo try and get their drivers license haha. What I never really thought about is the characters growing up. Gohan seemed like a wee young kid at season 1, and now he looks more mature, even though he's still a kid. Bulma changes her hairdo once again to an Afro?? I'm always wondering why she's always changing her hair style.

Also I know that the show tries to seem futuristic, while they still mention cassettes and VCR's etc and show people with the big box TV's lol, so if you're creating a futuristic TV show, make sure you leave out the tech, or at least make it seem more futuristic, with no now days tech in the background!

That's all really, goodnight!

The Green Hornet (2011 Film Review)

I just saw an ad on TV for this film and decided to do a review on it as I had only just watched this movie around 1 month ago. Before I begin, I am really sorry for Jay Chou as his name wasn't even mentioned in the ad, only Seth Rogan and Cameron Diaz, could I hint a bit of racism there? Can't be sure, but it's not very nice as he plays a more major role than Cameron Diaz. But anyway......

The Green Hornet is a superhero, action ,comedy film and is based off characters from a radio program from the 1930's. It stars two main characters Britt Reid who's played by Seth Rogen and Kato who's played by Jay Chou. These characters end up being The Green Hornet, after Britt and Kato are caught on camera and are broadcast in the media being criminals (even though they're actually the good guys), the twist here is that Britt actually is managing a newspaper company so he deliberately makes the front page about himself(The Green Hornet) every time.

But his ego gets the best of him and while Kato does all the weapons/ machinery and fighting, Britt sort of does nothing. Although this is the case, there is an identity crisis and Kato ends up being the sidekick. They have a fight in the film, and must settle their differences in the last half of the film before someone gets killed, so that's what happens in the film!

Anyway, this film actually got mixed to negative reviews from critics, but I'd actually have to give it a positive review. 7.5 out of 10 and I'll tell you why!

So first I have to say, there is a lot of action which goes on in this film which is normal for a superhero sort of film. Another thing I have to say is that it's actually pretty funny. I think Cameron Diaz makes the film 10x funnier so go her lol! There's a scene where Britt and Kato arrive at Lenore Case's house unannounced(Played by Cameron Diaz), and she beats the **** out of them lol. (Note:**** can mean anything, so **** can stand for STUFF, or SHIP, or DAYS. Well you get it haha). Anyway, also I have to say that the weapons and cars are very imaginative(unless they have been designed before this film was created, then no it wasn't haha), and also there's a plot twist which I never even suspected until it's revealed in the end which I'm sure everyone didn't know about too!

All in all, it's not a bad film at all, I have to say that it's a bit different to your usual superhero films but it is still quite nice to watch so watch if you haven't :)

Annoyed with Dragon Ball Z Cropping!!

Today there will be no review or anything as I need to do some study, and I have an exam today, but while I'm studying at the moment, I am watching Dragon Ball Z and have realised that (At least I am certain) that even Kai is cropped. This means that even Kai has missing bits throughout the show. This means that we are losing images from the four sides of the picture, though because I haven't closely analysed this, I am very annoyed with whoever has tried to digitally remaster this series. I believe that there won't be a true remastered copy, until they stop cropping the show! I saw a picture online anyway, comparing the Kai versions of the show from the Japanese and English DVD and Blu-Ray versions and all vary in either colour or cropping. Maybe one has brighter colours, maybe one is cropped on the sides, or the other is cropped on the top and bottom, maybe a picture is more fuzzy than the other, all in all, I believe that a show should be consistent throughout. I have never seen a show quite like Dragonball Z before, so much that a show has been altered in a way that it has annoyed me. I believe that I am a purist and like things kept to how they were. I don't mind colour tweaking or noise or dust removal, as long as the original still stays original. But I think what's just annoying me is that they can't get the original 4:3 footage on the screen, and need to crop either the top or sides. I just hope I'm wrong with Kai though, and they've fixed it for the Blu-Rays, but I think I saw that it's still 16:9, but they've moved the frame lower or higher depending on where the persons mouth was or something so the cropping is less noticeable, but really, was the cropping necessary for any of it? The show was made to view in 4:3 in a particular frame shot so it shouldn't be changed at all.

That's just my rant for today! I hope they release an uncropped version to NZ soon.

Tekken 1 (Game Review)

Today I will be reviewing the Tekken 1 Game which I bought maybe 2 months ago. I didn't grow up playing this game so I don't have any views from back then, plus I wasn't even born when it was first released!! I'm a huge Tekken fan, and first played back in around 2005, the game was Tekken Tag Tournament, but I will not be talking about that game today. Tekken 1 was included in the arcade mode of Tekken 5, and I did have a play around when I first got the game in 2006. All I can say is that it was hard and frustrating!

So Tekken 1, this was the first game in the series. First released for the PS1, and can now be downloaded from the PSN. Before playing for the first time I actually had a few ideas in mind on what would actually be in the console version of the game, but was a bit disappointed when I realised that there was only arcade and vs mode which is basically the same as the one on arcade mode on Tekken 5.

I actually have no idea how people managed to play this game. The first time I played this on easy mode, I had to switch characters 4-6 times at the minimum before finishing arcade mode and watching the movie. The secret is to just do the jump kick!!! Works almost every time(for Tekken 2 too!).

After going through Arcade mode a few times, I started wondering why the other characters wern't unlocking. Turns out that you need to unlock Heihachi first, and to do that you need to be able to complete the game in under 5 minutes and 30 seconds, and you must do that without any continues! Though I can't confirm that you need to do both things as many sites differ to what you actually need to do. But either way, it's pretty impossible.

In terms of how the characters move, they jump too high(which is later fixed in Tekken 3), and the characters move too slow, and take a long time to get up. Nina needs to take two steps before doing her arm chop move(which is one of my favourites). Almost all characters have very limited combo moves, with a lot of just arm punches and kicking.

I have to say though, for a game created over 20 years ago, the people who created the game did pretty well considering. I can see why it got such great reviews back then, but now if you released a game like that, it'd probably get a 0 or 1 out of 10 so I can't give this game a score as I've been influenced by the 21st century!

Dragon Ball Z Kai Limited Edition Complete Collection (Box Set Review)

This is a quick review on the Dragon Ball Z Kai Limited Edition Complete Collection Box Set(Region B released by Madman). In this review I will not be reviewing the anime itself, just the contents. I bought this particular set from Mightyape, Link Here!

So what is included in the Box Set? It includes a box containing four cases with 4 discs in each. And that's it. I actually expected more for a box set being Limited Edition, but I guess it's the box that makes it Limited Edition? The covers for each of the cases seem to be different to the separate collections released by Madman anyway.

If you know me you'd know that I bought the full set of Dragon Ball. The only thing I was missing was Kai, and Dragon ball on Blu-Ray. What I wanted was more HD(1080p) and also better aspect ratio as the remastered versions are all Wide screen, but the frames are cropped at the top and bottom, causing lost images(lots of chopped heads etc) which is actually really distracting, I have no idea what they were thinking there! I'm very happy to say that the whole set is in full screen box form, meaning that nothing is chopped off, including the top and bottom, so that is a definite positive from this! Also the colours are tweaked a bit so that the series looks like it was made in the 21st century, rather than the 20th.

The set includes both English and Japanese audio, perfect for anyone as they also include English subs!
Also if you didn't know what Kai is, it's basically the Dragon Ball Z series, but minus some story-lines and episodes, making it finish much faster. I think Kai is more based on the manga run, that's the reason for all the edits, but some scenes are added in which have not aired on Z before. I'm watching Dragon Ball Z right now and the battles last for basically the whole season, which I think takes too long so Kai will interest me definitely!

But if you've already bought the whole Kai series or are thinking of buying this collection, you might want to give it a think. If you don't have the Kai collection or Dragon Ball Z, then maybe consider watching Dragon Ball Z first before Kai as Kai is missing stuff out from the original anime. Should you have already bought the Kai collection, then you shouldn't need to buy this set unless you're an absolute fan/collector and want to collect the box and art as I don't see any differences with the separate collections. If you prefer watching newer anime titles and don't really like watching older ones then Kai is for you as it has a newer 21th century look.

So all in all, I think this is a really good collection, I myself can't wait to watch this, even though I'm still stuck on Season 3 of Dragon Ball Z. Until next time, bye!

NZ Game Shop (Website Review)

So this is new, I'm reviewing a website, why's that? Actually for one thing hardly anyone knows about this website, and also, I saw a conversation online and people wanted to know where they should buy the Yu-Gi-Oh cards from! So what is NZ Game Shop? Well yes, they are an online shop. You can buy many things from DVD's and Blu-Ray's, games and toys and collectibles, and well, you get it, they sell "Entertainment" related stuff.

I recently discovered this site a few months ago, and once I found it, I bought many stuff, first thing is first, their stuff is CHEAP!!!! ALMOST, and I say almost because it is almost, every time I check prices with other stores, this one is the cheapest out of them all. They are based in the UK so I guess that could be a reason. Their Blu-Rays and DVD's are UK region but it's still worth it, especially Blu-Rays as we're in the same region as them.

I use this site mainly to buy Pokemon cards as they sell them for way cheaper than other places. I bought some Pokemon cards from Iconix once, the problem is that their prices are a bit expensive, and they don't seem to stock stuff frequently.

Shipping wise, how long does it usually take to arrive after purchasing? Usually it take a day or two for them to ship out your item, and it takes around a week to arrive so it's pretty quick. I don't have any problems with their shipping. They ship things separately if one item takes longer to arrive to the than others which is a bonus. Most things arrive in cardboard boxes with some of the air pillows(I like to call them that haha). Oh and you shouldn't worry about customs, I haven't had any problems(Yet).

For each item you purchase, you get things called "Player Points" in which once you get them, they can count towards your next purchase so you can save more. So this site can really help you save some $$$$!!!

The only negative I can think of at the moment is that when they're selling a theme deck or something(where there are different styles of something) they do this thing where it's random, so you don't know which you will end up getting. I ordered two theme decks to get the chance of buying two items, but ended up receiving 2 of the same theme deck :( but NZ game shop was really nice and ended up giving me some stuff for free, so that was very kind of them. I have to say that they customer service is really great!

So yea, that was a quick review, they constantly sell stuff at cheap prices, and occasionally do deals too but not many that interest me. Check it out if you haven't already!

Just a little side note, I'm not sponsored by them or anything but I think they deserve the good reviews :)

The Legend of Korra, Episode 11, The Ultimatum (Episode Review)

Hello everybody! So I just came back from uni and decided to review the latest Legend of Korra episode "The Ultimatum". Well, as always I won't reveal too much of the plot but the main things which should be noted are that The Earth Palace in Ba Sing Se has become corrupt. Looters have started to steal everything. As Bolin and Mako make their way back to find Korra and the rest of the gang, Zaheer and the rest of the Red Lotus gang attack the northern air temple. Tenzin, Bumi and Kya helps the other Air Benders try and escape by battling with the Red Lotus.

So that's all I'll really say about the plot. I know I may have ruined it for some(sorry!). I thought that the episode was very interesting and exciting and definitely many things happen which leave this episode into a cliff hanger.

I think after the previous episode where the Earth Queen was suffocated, Avatar became less child friendly, and more teen oriented as usually you don't see these sort of things on screen on Nickelodeon, but the thing is that they moved online, so maybe that could have been a reason why??

In this episode, I think there are many times in which you can expect that a character has died, or will die. I think the Aang gang are very Heroic, and also Kai as they are trying to save all the other air benders. SO actually this episode is quite emotional.

As the red lotus are trying to exterminate the air benders, there is a lot of fighting going on at around the 2nd half of the episode, so you can expect pretty interesting action sequences.

Also, once you've finished this episode, do you think it was right for Bolin and Mako's grandma to want to stay at her own home as it was about to burn down??? Also that picture of the Earth Queen tat she was practically worshiping?? Either way, I think it proves that she's dead, as in the last episode, I was a bit unsure as no one gets killed in Avatar. The just die off screen or something, or are just mentioned.

Hope you enjoyed this recent review. I quite liked this episode. I'd give it a 8.5!!! Can't wait for te last episode next week, I can't believe that season 3 has come to an end almost! They should have continued the Aang adventures though, too bad it's just in comic book form. ANyway, consider watching this episode or series, bye!

Candy Crush (Game Review)

Sorry, I've been busy working today, then went out to dinner and only came back recently. The only thing I've played today is Candy Crush, so I shall review this game today!

So what is Candy Crush? It is an app game which you can play on Facebook, or on a smartphone or Ipod/ IPad etc. So what do you do? Well there are different levels you complete, by connecting 3 candies together to remove it. Connect more than 3, and the candy turns into a special type of candy, but I won't go into details there.

They brought in a separate owl level maybe half a year ago?? I have to say that the owl level is really annoying as you need to balance the owl so that it doesn't fall off the moon(once you play you'll get what I mean)

Currently I'm past lvl 200 and closing in on the 300's.  What I like about this game is that once you get into it, it gets addicting. I play maybe at least 30 mins per day. Often before I sleep and while I'm waiting, or to pass the time. It's addicting as you just want to finish all the levels, then you ca just stop lol. That's what I'm doing anyway, but the thing is that the levels get harder and harder.

Usually there's times where you get stuck on a level for a month before you pass by luck, or by using the lollipop hammer(smash a candy you want to get rid of without losing a move). Come to mention it, I forgot to talk about moves, so you get a number of moves in the game, and once you reach 0, you lose. Complete the game objective(e.g remove the jelly or get so and so points) withing the moves amount and you win.

So I don't want to talk too much as you can play to find out how the game is if you haven't played it, but is it worthwhile to download and play? Only if you want to occasionally play to pass time. If you're one of those people who get addicted easily then don't waste your time and play it, use your time for something  else.

My score would be 7 out of 10. I have to say though that it does get addicting. I'd love it if you could pass chapters more easily though as either you need to ask 3 Facebook friends for a pass, or complete 3 challenges in 3 days. The game actually isn't that original, as I've seen similar games though, but this has grabbed the attention of many.

Big Brain Academy (Game Review)

Ok, so in the last post I mentioned that I just received this game along with some others. I will now review Big Brain Academy for DS. So what is this game about? Well as the title suggests, in the game you test your brain through various categories which are...

1. Think
2. Memorize
3. Compute
4. Analyze
5. Identify

I have to say that I'm only good at Identify and Memorize, while I'm really bad at the thinking part at the moment. But anyway in this game you test your abilities by doing the 5 categories, so you could be finding the heaviest object, matching objects, counting, memorizing stuff etc, and at the end of this test, your points are added up and your brain gets weighed, and you get a score. At the start I was a D+, but now I'm a C- haha. You do all 5 things to get a score but after that you can just do each separate category to help improve for next time.

This game offers a multiplayer mode, if your friends have the game. I think it's the sort of game where you want to vs your friends and family and try and beat them. I think it'd be cool if you could vs people online, but obviously this is not a feature in the game, but it is a DS game after all.

For $5 at Mighty Ape, it was a bargain, that was one of my incentives to buy this game, also that I wanted to buy a DS game which I could play daily to help give my brain a workout. If you want to give your brain a workout, then this is the game for you! There used to be a PlayFish game on Facebook called "Who has the Biggest Brain?!" and I have to say that many of the questions are the same, but this DS game offers a lot more variety, so you're not doing the same activities over and over again.

I have to say that I wouldn't play this game hours on end though, but will play it occasionally everyday. What would I rate this game? Maybe a 7? I can't say there's anything wrong with this game at all. It's not your usual game that most people play on a DS though, I feel like it could almost be an app.

That's all for this review, hope you enjoyed!

Sight Training (Game Review)

Before I start this post I would like to say one thing. I've bought my first warped disc! I'm currently trying to flatten it out by placing some weights on top of it to try and flatten it out(hope it helps), otherwise I probably need to return it back to Hong Kong @@, it was only like $7 NZD so I think I can forget about it if I need to pay postage.

Anyway, my packages from Mighty Ape arrived today! I bought Jak and Daxter and also God of War Ghost of Sparta for PSP and also Big Brain Academy and Sight Training for Nintendo DS. I'll review the PSP games at a later date when I manage to play them but first I would like to talk about Sight Training. Big Brain Academy will go on my next post.

Anyway first, I have to say for $5, it's quite worth it, though it was a daily deal so you can't find it at that price now days. So what is this Sight Training? Well as the game title suggests, the game tests your eyes out with 5 different visual ability games which are...

1. Momentary Vision
2. Hand-Eye Co-ordination
3. Peripheral Vision
4. Eye Movement
5. Dynamic Visual Acuity

I wouldn't call this a game really, but just fun exercises to help train your eyes in the 5 areas. As I'm currently short sighted, I thought maybe it could help my eyes adjust, and also as I suffer from motion sickness, I thought maybe it could help me from not getting sick so easily as I believe that it's all to do with my eyes.

Anyway, I tried the game out today and basically all you do is training exercises to help strengthen your eyes through different mini games and activities/ tests. It's more of a thing you want to do daily, than actually play for a long time which sets itself different from the usual DS games that I play.

I really hope that this game helps out my sight. I might post after a month or two to tell you about my results from this game. It's good as you get to track your records of how far you have gotten and improved(or not if you're doing bad). I currently have the eyes of a 50 year old (apparently lolz).

One thing I have to say though, the text takes so long to read, I want to just skim and read quickly, but you have to wait for the text to type out, then press the green button to go next to read more!

Currently, my favourite is the boxing game! It's so fun!!! Try it out some time if you feel like it. For $5 is was worth it I think! It will definitely be more of a daily ritual, but I wouldn't play it for hours on end. The game is nicely structured and I don't think there's any problems with the game at all. I can't say much about the graphics because it is a DS game.

On an added note, usually after working your eyes, you get to relax them through a relaxing exercise with your eyes :) Do I need to rate this game?? Maybe a 7?? It's not bad, and I won't get bored if I spend 10 or so minutes per day doing this, so yep, that's all folks!

Family Guy Season 1 DVD (TV Show Review)

Ok, so the reason I'm saying Season 1 DVD is because in the series DVD they mixed season one with part of season 2 in so it's easier to just mention the DVD. I bought it on Trade Me along wither 8 other seasons and some additional TV specials. I decided to watch the series while doing some uni work, so I've probably been listening to the how more than actually watching.

What sets the show apart from other shows is that some of the characters(especially the dad of the family, Peter) acts so dumb, and if you thought Homer from The Simpsons was, then you were wrong, it's so much that I must cringe ><. They also like to add in comedy violence, so in the show a character could tell the other to cut their head off or something and they'd do it(just something random lolz).

Another recurring thing is that in almost all episodes, they have these sort of things where a character mentions something, and they show what the character was thinking(sometimes a sort of fake flashback or just a normal flashback), do I need to explain??? lol.

Also they like to do this repeating gag thing. An example in this series was when Peter(I think) can't stop laughing, and as Lois(Peter's Wife) tries to say something, Peter starts laughing. This repeats over and over for a minute or two. At the end there's a huge pause before Lois starts talking.

Some of the episodes like to parody films or other shows as well, so if you like that sort of stuff, you must watch :)

All in all, this show is really comedic, lots of inside jokes, lots of family drama. If you like that sort of stuff and haven't watched this series then you should consider it! Each episode normally doesn't link to any others so you can watch them out of order if you want, and whenever you have time.

My rating is 8/10. Something you might not understand is Stewie, the talking baby. He talks English, but sometimes people either ignore him or don't take him seriously and think it's baby talk. More is revealed in the future series.

Well that's all. I got that replacement for Full Metal Panic so that's awesome! Can't wait to finish watching, and I also started Bleach season 3. Bye for now!

Full Metal Panic! (Anime Review)

I bought the fat pack set in June and just recently decided to watch it. Problem is that disc 5 was faulty. Might ape was very kind and are going to get a replacement for me. Until then, I thought I should review the series, up until around the mid point(where I've stopped).

So what sort of anime is this? It is heavily military based as the male protagonist Sousuke Sagara and is squad are set to protect a high school girl named Kaname Chidori. Sagara goes undercover at school, and people initially think that he just has some military obsession or something.

The anime is mainly set at school over the first few episodes but once Chidori is saved by Sagara after being kidnapped by an organisation, the plot has a sort of shift. My thoughts on the series is that after this, the series sort of goes out of the window. I do not believe that there is much that is happening story wise. The first few episodes are promising though. I think that the whole series could have been concluded within the first 12 episodes, or in a movie instead, but certain anime titles do follow this sort of style.

What does this anime bring? Well, it brings action of course(military orientated show) so you see guns and all sorts of military equipment(plus some futuristic stuff). There are elements of comedy, probably more adult related jokes but you get what I mean anyway.

Relationships(and love) also build on this series, as Segara is the secret love interest of Chidori, and possibly others too, but you can tell that Chidori acts all angry, like she hates him when she's at school and stuff (show trope haha).

So should you watch this anime title? Well it's not for me to decide but I have to say that it's not bad at all. I'd probably give it a 7.5 as I know I've seen better before. I think that if the series ran smoothly without episode which have their separate plot, then it would have been an ever better show.

Well that's what I thought of Full Metal Panic. Hope you enjoyed reading this quick post. Talk to you soon, bye!

Dumb Ways to Die (App Game Review)

Hello everybody, yesterday I downloaded the dumb ways to die app game on my ipod and decided to play it today, and I have to say it's pretty addicting.

So if you haven't watched the MV yet then click play below!

Uploaded by DumbWays2Die, 14/11/2012

So you see the characters again in this game. Basically you do these tasks in a limited time to try and prevent them from dying. If you can't save them, then they die. If you do then you go up to the next level. For each level, the time limit decreases, and the levels get harder in various ways. You have three lives before the game ends.

I'm sure once you download the game and try it, you'll realise why I say that it's addicting, as you want to get a better score each time! For a free app I strongly recommend this game. It's just something fun to play when you're bored or waiting or something. I try not let it interfere with my life too much haha.

It also helps spread awareness for safety, including a share button which is good. Do I need to rate this game??? Kind of hard to, but maybe a 8.5??? Nothing I can say that is bad about it, but although it does spread awareness about safety, you can take it the other way too lol. Anyway, that's all, bye!

Bleach, The First Two Seasons (Anime Review)

Hello everybody! I'm currently watching Full Metal Panic, but I haven't finished watching it yet so I won't talk about it yet, but today I finished watching season 2 of Bleach. So I bought both of the Bleach Bankai Boxes which contain episodes from 1-229 so I have a lot to watch.

I have watched Bleach before, but only made it up to the first 20-30 episodes before I stopped. This happened a second time a year later. I decided to buy the Bankai Box Set so that it forces me(yes I watch if I buy!) to watch Bleach(This didn't actually help me watch Dragon Ball + Z + GT though as the whole set is still sitting in my room (only through part of season 3 of Z!) but yeah anyway, I made it though season 2 within a month or two which is pretty good considering uni and everything. The first 2 or 3 seasons seem to be the longest with around 24 episodes each, while some of the other seasons don't seem to have as many episodes.

I'm going to have a hard time describing the plot until the end of season 2 so it's better if you go search it up yourself or watch it but really,  in a couple of sentences, the main character Ichigo becomes a soul reaper(hard to describe what they are sorry!) after the character Rukia(another soul reaper) gives some of her powers to him. She is later punished for doing this, and is sentenced to death, causing Ichigo and some friends to go and rescue her by going to the soul society, and that's basically it.

This anime contains a lot of action, I'd say probably at least 2/3 of the time, someone is fighting someone(or some thing) so you can expect that. And as this show is more for an older audience rather than just kids, it features blood. My thoughts on this show is that they sort of drag on the episodes on. The series could be compressed more if the people ho made the show wanted to, not saying that it's bad or anything, it's actually alright. I won't really talk about Dragonball Z, but if you've seen it you'd know that they really drag on the episodes there!

The show also as its funny moments, not that I can describe any at this moment, but there are some so if you want to see some light comedy mixed in with action then this is the show for you! This is a really long series so if you have time, then why not! Most episodes do end on a cliff hanger so it makes you want to watch the next episode!! On a related note, each series does seem to end on a cliff hanger too. Rukia was taken away in season 1, so you want to know what will happen to her and what happens to Ichigo too(I can't remember if he decides to go to the soul society in the first or second season but sorry if I've ruined it for you already). In season 2 a soul reaper is murdered, which is a rare case, and also us as viewers want to know what happens to Ichigo and Rukia. Also there were some characters who seemed to have disappeared but I don't know if it was mentioned in an episode or not. Oh well, that's all for this review, thanks for reading this post! I'm trying to post everyday! I do watch something everyday so it's ok! Bye for now!

The Voice Kids Australia (TV Show Review)

Ok so just to let you know, when I say review, I really just mean that I talk about my thoughts on something. Today I decided to watch the first episode of The Voice Kids Australia. So I don't usually watch The Voice(Because I don't really watch TV) but if you know me, you'd know that I do find it interesting hearing child singers sing(fact I was one, but not professional). So when I heard it being advertised, I decided to watch the first episode.

So what is The Voice? Or at least the Kids version anyway. Kids go and stand on a stage a sings a song while the judges (in this case 4) sit in a revolving chair which is initially facing the back of the singer so the judges can only listen to the person's voice, rather than just picking with looks that can affect. When the judge presses the button, it means that they want the child/ children in their team. As the button is pressed, the chair turns around and faces the stage. Once the song ends, the child/children must choose to be in which team. If the judge didn't press the button, then it means that they did't want them in their team and they can't pick that judge. That's for the audition stage anyway.

I think compared to other children versions of reality TV, this one feels less kiddish if you get what I mean. Such that it still feels like The Voice.(Bad explanation huh??)Maybe because the first episode had many children in the tween ages?? Almost everyone shown got through though(in the first episode at least). It makes me wonder if there's a huge selection process before they get to sing in front of the judges as I know from experience that there is many children who sound like they're shouting instead of singing, but all these singers can actually sing, even if they didn't get in.

The only real negative I can say from watching this show is that the judges like to bribe the child(or children), which could influence their choices but other than that I think I quite like this show! I'm up to episode 2 already(watching on demand). All I can say is that I wish this show was in NZ! That's all for this review, bye!

The Legend of Korra Season 3, Episode 10, Long Live The Queen (Recap & Review)

Team avatar is captured on both sides (Red Lotus and Earth Queen). I just realised that the water bending lady has no arms! Amazing she can waterbend! I also realised that I find myself hating the Earth Kingdom now! The earth queen is annoying! Don't you wish the fire nation took over Ba Sing Se during Sozin's comet now!

In this episode Korra and Asami crash land in the desert while trying to make their escape. While Mako and Bolin are sent to the dungeons in the Earth Kingdom. Bolin tries to metal bend the bars to escape but fails(while doing some funny sounds lol). That's basically what happens half way into the episode. Later on the walls fall down in Ba Sing Se! Make sure you go and watch it!

I can't say that much happens in this episode action wise, but story wise, if you miss it, another chunk of the plot will be missing. Another plot twist happens at the end before the credits roll, so don't miss out!

That's all I have to say. This was just a quick talk on this episode.

The Legend of Korra Season 3, Episode 9, The Stakeout (TV Show Recap & Review)

Hey everyone! I won't reveal too much of episode 9 but this is basically half of it anyway as I don't want to reveal the end to you guys who haven't watched it yet. So Korra and her friends go and search for Aiwei. Naga find a hidden jeep, but Korra doesn't have a treat to reward her so Naga slaps her with her tail lol! Bolin and Mako set off at Misty Palms Oasis, asking people around, looking for Aiwei, only to be spotted by bounty hunters but are able to chase them off. When they find Aiwei, they have a stakeout and spy on Aiwei, waiting for him to contact Zaheer.

Korra enters the spirit world and finds Aiwei and Zaheer. We learn about the Red Lotus. Then we find out why Zaheer tried to kidnap Korra as a child, duh duh duh!!!!! All I can say is that there's a plot twist at the end!

Funny bits in this episode:

  • Naga slapping Korra with her tail
  • Yellow poncho disguises
  • Bolin finds some fans and is given a doll
  • Bolin almost wins a pai shou game but it spoilt by his pet
This episode revealed a lot of things about Zaheer and is group that we as viewers wanted to know from previous episodes, and they were mostly revealed in this episode. It also left many questions at the end of the episode. It ends in a cliff hanger, and all I can say is that I want to watch episode 10 right now!

I think that if anyone missed this season then things may not make sense later on so story wise, this episode is a must watch. Action wise, it's mostly at the end. No rating for this blog post but I did enjoy it though! If you haven't seen The Legend of Korra yet then make sure you check it out!

The Darkest Hour (Movie Review)

Hello everybody! Today I will be reviewing the 2011 science fiction thriller film "The Darkest Hour" which was directed by Chris Gorak and produced by Timur Bekmambetov.

My first thoughts before watching this film on Friday...
Aliens attack and cause natural disasters causing the world to end. Your usual survivor trope guy tries to save the day by using guns. That sort of stuff. But I don't think I was close at all. Let's review!

So it turns out that the aliens are invisible and when close to electricals, will turn them on(after power cuts). The attack humans by grabbing them and eating them?? Well humans turn into nothingness as soon as they have their clutches on them. There are actually only around 4-5 main characters, while there's a couple of secondary characters, most are just extras. They try and survive first by hiding in a basement?? Before running low on food and try and go to the US embassy. One at a time, a character is killed off by the aliens, leaving only a selection of characters left.

After watching maybe 30 mins of this film, I did realise that the film seemed a bit budget. Not that there were any bad special effects or anything but it did have that feeling. I think the plot was a real let down. Almost none of the characters really developed. I feel like some of the characters there were just to kill off in the film, so when they get killed, you don't really feel that emotion you feel when a character is developed and killed. Also I hate films where basically they run and hide, that's what they basically do in this film. There is only brief action at the end of the film where the characters are basically forced to attack, otherwise they die. Not like others where they decide to take action before they're killed off.

I'd have to give this film a 4/10. It's not a bad film but basically needed some tweaks with the plot and character developments. I think for this kind of film, more action sequences could have been placed in which could have saved the film overall.

Dead Island (Game Review)

You know one thing I've missed out of the URL? Gaming, and also books!!! I'm thinking of changing my page name before too many people find it. For now anyway  I will be doing a quick review on Dead Island(PS3 Version). I just recently swapped this game in for Burnout Paradise for $16. I had heard good things about the game and also I've seen my friends play it before and they liked it.

The survival/ horror game starts off inside a hotel and you don't really know where to go or what has really happened. You come across funny looking people(zombies) and run. The first time I actually got scared as they attacked because I forgot how to sprint, and also the vibrate was on so I had to turn it off(I don't like it at all). Anyway, later on you're saved by survivors and you do these quests where you find items and stuff and clear out all the zombies. It's pretty graphic stuff, I know why it's R18 now!!!

I have only played around one hour of the game so I can't say that I know a lot about the game, but usually if you don't like the game within a certain time frame then it's not very good at all. I do have to say that the game is a bit glitchy though (and I've heard about some of them online). The camera angles could be a bit better as it made me want to throw up within that hour of the game (that's why I quit haha).

Dead Island - 10 Minutes Gameplay by GameStar, 25/05/11

What I like about the game is the fighting zombies but but they could have done a better job though. POV is through the eyes in the game. I'm not quite sure if they have it or not but it'd be nice if there was a full body view, that way it's easier to see where you're hitting as you need to balance your way to hit zombies and pick up items.

I was actually watching Resident Evil the week before and Shiki the week before so I thought it was time to play a Zombie themed game :) Anyway if I had to score this game, I'd give it a 6.5/10 as it's not bad at all but not outstanding. Not really much story-wise, and things could have been improved.

As a little note, from now on I'm going to just post YouTube videos of the things I'm reviewing and talking about, until I figure out the whole copyright thing because I'm pretty sure I didn't have permission for any of the images. But anyway, I hope you enjoyed this quick review. Until next time, bye!

North by Northwest (Movie Review)

Hello everybody. Today I will be reviewing the 1959 film "North by Northwest", directed by Alfred Hitchcock. This film is an American spy/ thriller film featuring the main protagonist Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) who is mistaken as a spy who is kidnapped at the beginning of the film and escapes a staged car accident.

Once again I won't spill the beans too much but I do have to say that this was a very well planned film. I don't think that I have seen anything like it before. It is definitely not like your typical James Bond type spy film but doesn't shy around the suspense Hitchcock brings to the film. My favourite bit was when Thornhill throws a set of matches with a secret message inside to an ally(won't mention their name) as one of the baddies sees the match set but just chucks it on the table >< bahaha.

When you think you have things all sussed out, the film turns and the plot changes.  Somehow they make it to MT Rushmore. I wonder how they filmed those close up scenes so well!  Just like some of the previous Hitchcock films, the killing scenes are a bit funny to watch to the 21st century generation but they're fantastically done! No blood required!

I actually watched this on Saturday on blu-ray, $13 at mightyape! As it was the remastered version I'd like to quickly say something  about it.

So the movie is crystal clear(not literally) but it was really well done. At least I didn't notice any dust marks or rips in the film. It's unbelievable that it's such an old film when you see it! This edition came with a few special features (which I didn't watch) plus I don't know what the previous versions had but I'd say that this version is quite worth the money.

I'd have to give the film a 9/10. I was really tired when I watched the film but I kept my eyes on the film the whole time and ended up getting really into it! It's really different to your usual films wich makes it so great! Mistaken identity, suspense & plot turns pretty much sums up the film. Not to mention a few funny bits(but I won't ruin it, I've already revealed too much).

Also don't think that just because the film is past 50 that it's boring, because it's not. It may be different to your 21st century films but it's definitely one which you need to see at least once in your lifetime!

Anyway, that's the end of the review. I need to watch the next Legend of Korra episode. When I watch that I'll do a review on it. Until then bye!

Studio Ghibli & Dragon Ball Z News

Did anyone hear about Studio Ghibli?? It appears that the studio isn't actually closing but are taking a pause. It was big news online though, looks like someone got their facts wrong and everyone saw it!

I myself haven't seen that many Studio Ghibli films. The only one I have on DVD is Howl's Moving Castle. I watched Grave of the Fireflies on Christmas day and all I can say is that it's a very moving film T.T go watch it if you haven't already, or any of the other Studio Ghibli films. I myself need to watch all of them one day.

In other news Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will be screening in NZ on August 30th for one day only! If they screen it in Christchurch then I'll definitely try and see it! I myself have only really been watching the series for a few years, I bought the full set almost a year ago and haven't even completed season 3 yet for Dragon ball Z, not to mention the original and GT + also the films too! Oh well, I still have time!

This post is fast because I've already talked too much today! Until next time, bye!

The Legend of Korra Book 3 Change (TV Show Review)

We are currently up to book 3, episode 9. This is the first episode where they started showing episodes online only. I will not talk about episode 9 but on what's happened so far and my thoughts so if you don't want spoilers on stuff up to episode 9 I suggest you don't read this until you do.

I've been a fan of Avatar for as long as it came out. I used to watch the series once a month or two. My all time record was only 2.5 weeks apart before I watched the whole series again. It was sad to hear it end but when I heard about Legend of Korra I was really excited! I have to say the first book wasn't that great, and book 2 only got better towards the end.

By book 3 they explore more places other than just stay in Republic City. After Harmonic Convergence, new airbenders started popping up all over the place. What got me thinking was for one thing, yay the airbenders arn't almost extinct anymore, but really, was this how airbenders came to be? Could an airbender pop up in the fire nation with fire nation blood in them?? Hard to say but I guess the creators needed to save them somehow. Bumi became an airbender which means Avatar Aang didn't just have one but two Airbender sons in the family. TBH I thought he looked more like the firebender type but oh well haha.

In the first episode(or the second I don't remember) a giant plant thing attacks the city but after that episode where did it go? What happened? It's like they completely forgot about it. Maybe it'll come back in another episode?? Who knows but uh oh haha!

New characters are introduced including an Airbender named Kai who I've drawn a liking to. Maybe they'll create a new season with him, who knows haha, but he's my favourite in this season! He developed airbending skills quite quickly for someone who had only just got his bending abilities not too long ago.

Some other characters are introduced also but I won't go into too much depth as I'm sure you don't want me to talk about characters all day but in my opinion why does every season have it's own bad guy. Legend of Aang had Zuko, Zhao, Azula and Ozai but you kind of think every fire nation person is bad but Legend of Korra kind of goes all over the place with them. What we wonder in this series are who are these bad guys and what do they want with Korra?? In Episode 8 they try and capture her but is saved by her friends and comrades(can't spell the a word sorry ><).

Speaking of episode 8 there's a couple of things I remember too. Korra learns metal bending and Lin has a sister(who knew!) and the father? No one knows yet but people are eager to find out!

Season 3 has many plot turns and surprises! I'm ending the post here as I'm sure you're ready to watch this show if you haven't aready. If I had to rate it so far I'd give it a 8.5/10. In terms of story line it's really improved from the previous books. I think what's made it really interesting is that you want to know what will happen with the airbenders and why do people want to kidnap Korra? And Lin's family connections??? And the evil queen who's not good with animals. Oh well, there's still more episodes in store for Avatar so stay tuned! Watch if you haven't watched this series yet, especially if you like action, adventure with some sci-fi elements. It's commonly mistaken for an anime so if you like anime then possibly consider it. For now bye!

Triad (Hong Kong Movie Review)

I bought the DVD on Thursday for $5 and decided to watched this movie yesterday.
Now what is this movie about. This movie, released in 2012 is a Hong Kong film(Directed by Daniel Chan) set in Hong Kong (In Cantonese with English sub, even though the cover said Mandarin lolz). It focuses on the main male character William (Played by William Chan), who is a college student who decided to join a gang. The film sets him up as the typical bookworm trope type. At the start we see him with his mum helping her sell oranges on a street and before we know it he gets up getting beat up by gang people and a huge fight breaks out as other people come to help him. He is later saved by the gang that he later joins in the film.

To be honest there is not much to the film so I was a bit disappointed(and I can't remember much so that doesn't help with this review as well). But really this film follows the story of the protagonist and carries on for a couple of years. As the movie progresses we see him and his friends progress into the gang, gaining higher ranks.

If you want to see a bit of fighting, blood, violence, gangs, the progression of a protagonist then this film just may be for you. Like I said before, there's not much to the film. Story-wise I'd say that there's only a few key moments in the movie. The beginning, middle and the end.  What I do like about the film is the use of cinematography. Really great visuals with the use of the hand held style etc.

Overall I'll have to give this movie a 3.5, I have to say that I've seen better films, especially other Hong Kong films.

Eden of the East (Anime Review)

Hello everybody! Today I will be reviewing the 2009 anime Eden of the East (TV Show only). I actually bought this DVD on Thursday and it arrived on Saturday but I managed to finish the whole thing today! It was on sale so I decided to buy it, not realising that there was the same collection but with the two films added into the collection! But oh well!

I won't go into depth too much as it'll spoil the surprise for you but basically some missiles strike Japan and is forgotten months later by the population. Most of the anime is circled around the two protagonists of the series, the guy Akira Takizawa and girl Saki Morimi. Turns out the anime is about a game and the people playing have cellphones. When I found this out I suddenly thought of Future Diary! There are a couple similarities but if you're looking for more action and blood I suggest you watch Future Diary. Eden of the East is more mystery based, the main mystery is to who the character Akira really is as the character has lost his memory right at the start of the film so he doesn't remember who he is. We as viewers(and also some of the characters of the film) are unsure as to if he is a good or bad guy until the final few episodes of the show.  (Hopefully I haven't spilled the beans already ><)

I had high hopes for this anime, it started off in a weird way in America(just watch it, then you'll know haha) and ends a bit weird too. I expected this to be another action packed series or romance kind of anime but it's not really the case, all I can say is that it's different, but in a good way. I did manage to last watching the whole series in one day though. Usually if a series is really good you get these withdraw symptoms but this wasn't the case at all for this show, I feel like it's more like a film. It's something I'd watch once but possibly not again.

I'd give it a 7.5/10. It's not a bad anime at all. Recommended for people who want to watch something different to your usual anime titles that you hear about online. It does have a few laughs here and there mixed in with the seriousness so if you think you like the sounds of this title then you should go watch it! It's out on Blu-ray and DVD so you can get your hands on it :)

See you all next time in the next review, hope you enjoyed! What I'll do is review a couple of other titles that I've watched later on even though it's been a little while since I've seen them. Maybe I'll watch them again, who knows?! If you like my new blog then don't forget to share with your friends, I'd love to get other people doing reviews on here too in the future!

Edit - Sorry I know I'm not the best at these reviews but I'll get better as I write more. I'm not A+ in the writing side but I hope you're not here to read an essay! Just a brief overview and my thoughts, that is what these posts are all about, thanks :)
